Bridle Path Neighbourhood Real Estate

Bridlepath 3Also known as "Millionaires Row," the houses in Bridle Path neighbourhood often start . in excess of a million dollars. Enclosed by the Don River Valley and luxuriant parkland, this exclusive community is the crème de la crème abode for affluent Toronto residents.

Everything is accessible to Bridle Path residents, as they have access to shoping, recreation, and education for their children along Bayview Avenue. Such neighbourhood landmarks include the upscale York Mills Shopping Plaza, the stylish Toronto Granite Club, as well as the private Crescent School for boys.

Originally, the Bridle Path was a woolen and saw mills on the banks of Wilket Creek, operated by Alexander Milne. The Mills were settled on what is now Edwards Gardens in 1827. Milne operated the mills until 1832 when a dwindling water supply forced Milne to move the operation east to another site along the Don River.

As a result, the Bridle Path remained for the duration of the 1800's and early 1900's as farmland.

Bridlepath 2Not until 1929, when the Bayview Bridge was built over the steep Don River Valley, was this area considered for residential development. Thanks to Hubert Daniel Bull Page, a Toronto-based land developer, who imagined the Bridle Path as an exclusive enclave of estate homes. The first plans for this neighbourhood had elaborate system of equestrian Bridle Paths. Although these Bridle Paths have long since been paved over, their legacy remains in the Bridle Path's unusually wide streets and in the name of this neighbourhood.

The largest mansions in Toronto are located between Post Road and Park Lane Circle. These spectacular homes are positioned on one to six acre lots and, among their more beautiful characteristics, stone and cast iron gateways with elaborate built-in security systems are some of the main features. Even the smaller houses south of Park Lane Circle have very substantial one hundred foot frontages.

The majority of the houses in the Bridle Path were built mostly in the 1930's, 1950's and 1960's. This takes into consideration the eclectic variety of architectural styles found in this luxury neighbourhood. Architectural designs includes Georgian, Colonial, Greek and Tudor Revival, Italianate, Neo Gothic, California bungalows and futuristic modernist style houses. Even a luxury condominium apartment building has been recently built at number one Post Road, in the French Chateau style.
